Viewing Feuerman’s exhibit Shapes of Reality at Aria Gallery in Florence is the perfect way to spend a summer evening.

The sculptor’s life-size Diver is now on view in the garden at Aria. Diver seeks to capture the motion made by a diver as his body arches, goes backwards, and a ‘C’ shape is formed. This shape represents perseverance and balance as well as the struggle to achieve.

Feuerman sought to accentuate the elegant ‘C’ shape to highlight the beautiful struggle of muscle and body that ensues when a diver pushes themselves past the limits of the ordinary.

As an Artist, Feuerman recognizes the symbol of the diver as a kindred artistic spirit. The Diver is perched on the edge, readying himself for more than just a dive; he is about to create and define his own reality. Feuerman pursues this same bold path with her sculptures.

Also on view at Aria Gallery is Next Summer, Monumental Brooke with Beach Ball, Capri as well as Serena Diamond Dust Shower.

Friends new and old, hungry collectors, delighted first-timers, and eager Press toured the gallery of bewitching swimmers.

All were united by the undulating energy imbued in the sculptures. Feuerman’s passionate dedication to detail is world famous and when given the chance, admirers get as close as possible to revel in these sundry specifics.

Watch artist Carole Feuerman at work, creating Balance. From precisely placing strokes of paint to strategically applying water drops, follow along and discover the process behind making these beautiful sculptures. With over 100 layers of paint, rigorous glazing and sanding it can take years to create these pieces. The minute details in the tiny water drops and wisps of hair, the precise application of eyebrows and eyelashes all must be perfect in order to create such a realistic sculpture, and Carole Feuerman achieves just that. Complete with tan lines and water drops it is easy to imagine this swimmer resting in the lotus position whilst mediating after a long and demanding swim. 

Balance will be featured at the National Hotel in Miami, which is celebrating its 75th Anniversary during Miami Art Week. Monumental Quan, a larger than life female figure, rests peacefully atop an impressive stainless steel ball. Quan juxtaposes the courtyard aesthetic nicely, creating a dichotomy between contemporary and historical art. She provides a modern twist to this historic site. However, contemporary Quan does pay homage to traditional Buddhist beliefs. The title of this work is derived from the Chinese name for the 'goddess of compassion'. The name is short for Guanshiyin, which means 'observing the sounds and cries of the world. In Buddhist imagery, the goddess is depicted looking or glancing down, symbolizing her watching over the world. In Feuerman's sculpture, the figure's poise and yoga stance on top of the sphere are a metaphor for the world. Quan quintessentially exudes mental steadiness and emotional stability, calm behavior and judgment—very things the artist herself strives to achieve.

A Toast to Goddesses and Swimmers at Miami Art Week by Carole Feuerman

Come winter people from around the world find themselves escaping the chilly weather in favor of a warm tropical beach. For art lovers there is no better place to be than Miami the first week of December. From starlets and professional athletes to renowned artists, and high-class businessmen there is no telling whom you might bump into over a glass of champagne. The city transforms into an art mecca, becoming a pilgrimage for every contemporary art collector. With over 20 art fairs and 120 events, visitors are presented with the best contemporary art in the world in a Gatsby-esque environment.

Sculptor Carole A. Feuerman will be heading down south and presenting her work at several events during the week. Carole’s Painting with Fire series, a body of work she has been developing for over two decades. The process involves melting 6 different types of metals at 2,000 degrees. Once heated she takes the molten hot metal and drips, pours, splatters, and splashes the liquid into a hand made cast; she is literally painting with fire. Venus in Lace, and Dimetre are results of this technique. Each work contains rich textures, organic shapes, and has a remarkable iridescent color. They can be seen first hand at Art Miami! Carole A. Feuerman is recognized as one of the world’s most renowned, influential, and popular hyperrealist sculptors.  Her prolific career spans four decades in which she has pioneered new approaches to sculpture. 

In May, the Double Diver, Feuerman's monumental sculpture towering 36 feet in the air, was installed at NetApp’s headquarters and gifted to the city of Sunnyvale, California. 

Using the innovative technique of dripping molten bronze and utilizing the ability to make 4,800 pounds of bronze balance on six-inch bronze wrists, she pushed the boundaries of both art and physics; creating a sculpture that is truly the first of its kind. 


 

Feuerman is currently exhibiting in Personal Structures, Time Space Existence, Global Art Affairs Foundation, which is part of this year's 2015 Venice Biennale in Italy.

Her solo exhibition, Art in Harbour City, Hong Kong just closed and the sculptures are now going to be touring Asia. They will be shown next at the Daejeon Museum of Art in Daejeon, South Korea in a hyperrealism exhibition opening on Sept 4th. After that they will be exhibited at a museum in the capital city of Seoul.

Her work is currently on exhibit in a solo show at KM Fine Art in Chicago. 

On August 22nd she is having an outdoor sculpture show at Gerson Zevi Gallery in Water Mill, NY in the Hamptons featuring 13 outdoor bronzes.

October 9th is the opening of another solo show at Hubner & Hubner Gallery in Frankfurt, Germany.

Aria Gallery from Florence, will open their new space in London in mid October with a 2 person show featuring Feuerman.

In the spring of 2016 she will have a New York Solo show and a solo show at the in the DeLand Museum in Florida.

She continues to focus on making figurative sculptures for public and private collections. Feuerman maintains two studios in NY and NJ. On an ongoing basis, Feuerman's work can be seen in selected galleries and museums worldwide.

Chicago, IL (May 19, 2015) - KM Fine Arts is pleased to announce Carole A. Feuerman | New Works, a solo exhibition of new sculptures by the artist, on view from July 31, – September 15, 2015 at the gallery’s Chicago location at 43 East Oak Street, Chicago, IL 60611. The exhibition will feature a selection of both life-size and small-scale works by the artist. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, July 31, from 6-9pm with the artist in attendance.

Carole Feuerman (b.1945) has received critical acclaim for her hyperrealist sculptures of swimmers and bathers for over forty years. A number of her most iconic images, including Balance, Serena and Miniature Quan will be featured in the exhibition alongside life-size works, Christina and Next Summer. Executed in painted resin with tactile flesh and meticulous detail, Feuerman’s sculptures have a presence that is both contemporary and classical. While it is not uncommon for hyperrealist work to seem cold and unapproachable, Feuerman’s bathers, balanced and calm, are unexpectedly intimate and inviting.

Genuine mink fur is used for the replication of eyelashes and hair, and the details of the tanned skin, fingernails, and bathing suit ripples are painstakingly painted on. These details combined with the perfectly formed water droplets made of clear resin create astonishingly life-like sculptures. A number of swimmers are even dressed with swim caps that are bejeweled with red and crystalline Swarovski Crystals. The artist states that she, “sculpt[s] the human figure so lifelike, the pieces seem to breathe...This can take up to 100 different coats of paint, and glazing and sanding in between coats, to get the finish and luminosity needed. From start to finish, the process of creating a sculpture can take from 6 months to several years.”

In addition to her resin and oil sculptures, Feuerman is also works actively with bronze. Two of her bronze works, Miniature Tree and Miniature Diver will be featured in the exhibition. The body of the diver is arched into a sensuous C-shape and speaks to her understanding of the golden mean: an ancient mathematical equation epitomizing balance and proportion. The bather featured in Miniature Tree is posed with an S-curve, or contrapposto, typical of classic Greek and later Renaissance sculpture. 

Feuerman lives and works in New York. She has had six museum retrospectives and her work has been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the 2008 Olympic Fine Arts Exhibition, the Venice Biennale, The State Hermitage, and The Palazzo Strozzi Foundation, to name a few. Among her many honors are 1st-Prize-Best in Show at the Beijing Biennale, the Amelia Peabody Sculpture Award, the Betty Parsons Sculpture Award, and the Medici Award. Her work is in the selected collections of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan, President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Henry Kissinger, Mikhail Gorbachev, the Forbes Magazine Collection, the Caldic Collection, and Credit Suisse Collection. Selected public collections include Grounds for Sculpture, the El Paso Museum of Art, the Boca Raton Museum of Art, the Bass Museum and Art-st-Urban.

About Carole A. Feuerman

Carole A. Feuerman is recognized as one of the world’s most renowned hyperrealist sculptors. Her prolific career spans four decades in which she has pioneered new approaches to sculpture. Working in both monumental and life size, she is the only figurative artist to hyperrealistically paint bronze for use in outdoor public art, and the only sculptor to install these sculptures in the water.

While attending the School of Visual Arts in New York, she painted 13 album covers used by Time Warner Records including, but not limited to, The Rolling Stones World Tour Book, Alice Cooper, and Aretha Franklin. She has been honored with six major museum retrospectives to date.  Her work has been showcased in numerous exhibitions including the Venice Biennale, the State Hermitage, the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation, the Kunstmuseum Ahlen, the Archeological Museum di Fiesole, and the Circulo de Bellas Artes.  She won first prize at the Austrian Biennale, the Florence Biennale, the 2008 Olympic Fine Art Exhibition, best in show at the Beijing Biennale, and won the Save The Arts Foundation Award as Museum Choice.

In 2000, she was elected to be a member of the International Woman’s Forum, where preeminent leaders of diverse professional achievement from finance to fine arts come together to make a difference and to take an active, leadership role in matters of importance. In 2013 her sculpture, The General’s Daughter was featured in the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery.

There are four full-color monographs written about her work: Carole Feuerman Sculpture, both editions published by Hudson Hills Press, La Scultura in Contra la Realta, which is available in multiple languages, and Swimmers, published by The Artist Book Foundation.

The immense public and media response to Carole A. Feuerman’s Solo Exhibition at Harbour City, Hong Kong has resulted in the show being extended until July 7th. Harbour City Art's mission to be a beacon of prestigious public art has been hugely advanced by Feuerman’s flourishing exhibition.

The thriving fine art scene in Hong Kong has been awakened to the unique, creative niche of Feuerman’s luminous hyper-realism. In her first solo exhibition in Asia’s premier city, Feuerman has successfully left her distinctive artistic signature and she will continue to do so throughout the international art world with upcoming shows in Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan.

Even the Hong Kong Skyline and Victoria Harbor couldn’t distract the crowd’s attention from Feuerman’s Harbour City Swimmers exhibition. The show is a surreal spectacle of hyper-real sculptures and models dressed as Feuerman’s sculptures integrated together throughout the exhibit.

People’s heads were spinning as models would come to life and move, while others waited for Feuerman’s sculptures to do the same.

Feuerman’s reputation as a master illusionist was immediately apparent and the crowd was entranced by the specially commissioned swimming pool home for Kendall Island, Olympus, Next Summer, The Golden Mean, Monumental Brooke with Beach Ball, and Monumental Quan.

 

 

Neon lights and camera flashes illuminated the flawless swimmers and set social media ablaze as Feuerman enthusiasts posted pics of the show that spread like wildfire.

 

It’s the sculptor’s first solo show in Hong Kong and the response has been monumental. Viewers were wonderfully delirious and delighted by Feuerman’s swimmers.

It’s often said that people fall in love with Feuerman’s sculptures because of their exuberant celebration of life in its finest details and the people of Hong Kong certainly seem to be reveling in this celebration.

There is nothing casual about Feuerman’s hyper-realism and perhaps that is its most potent trait. Feuerman’s swimmers transcend ordinary reality because of their timeless nature. Her artistic technique for hyper-realism succeeds in capturing emotion in motion.

The swimmers beckon for viewers to see reality afresh; after discovering the details of a Feuerman, people’s eyes cannot help, but be more aware of the world around them. The quiet gift given to people at the exhibition from every sculpture is the will and desire to truly see the magic of life’s finer points.

Anyone lucky enough to see the show will walk away with a new found hyper perspective, which will beautify their life and allow them to see new grandeurs residing all around them. They’ll realize that they were looking, just not hard enough.
